Advanced Foot and Ankle Specialists Improve Efficiency, Workflow With Aprima and DAS

Aprima Medical Software a leading developer of electronic health record (EHR) and practice management (PM) systems for medical practices, today announced that Advanced Foot and Ankle Specialists of Brandon, Florida, a two-provider podiatry practice, purchased Aprima’s EHR through Tampa-based Doctor’s Administrative Solutions (DAS).

In addition to being a certified Aprima reseller, DAS assists physicians in selecting and implementing new technologies to help streamline workflows. Advanced Foot and Ankle Specialists went live with Aprima following a 60 day implementation period. During the process, DAS converted the practice’s paper-based patient records to remotely hosted electronic records. Its Aprima-certified educators trained the Advanced Foot and Ankle office managers and physicians over a one-week period.

Unlike other firms that resell various software developers’ EHR products, DAS offers clients unlimited training and implementation support as a cornerstone of its philosophy. This approach allows the practice to make use of additional training as it becomes more experienced with the system, or when bringing on a new employee. The result is that the practice’s employees have an excellent command of the software and will become meaningful users of the application.

“DAS has been instrumental in the implementation and subsequent use of Aprima’s electronic health record software in our practice,” said Dr. Mark Leitner, Founder, Advanced Foot and Ankle Specialists.

“We know how imperative training is to a successful implementation,” said Cary Auderer, Vice President of Implementations, DAS. “Training can become diluted over time, especially with staff turnover and product upgrades and changes. We combat misinformation with our unlimited training and can be onsite the same day as requested to help our partnering practices.”

In addition to the excellent training, DAS provides off-site hosting of patient and practice information in its secure data center. The center is hurricane Category 4 rated with backup generators and redundancy. An advantage of DAS’s off-site approach is that the practice does not have to worry about maintaining the technology it would otherwise ha handle in its own office.

The off-site approach reduces the practice’s space requirements, privacy breach risks and need to conform to backup regulations. , Dr. Leitner notes, “The off-site hosting and data management make DAS an invaluable partner, along with Aprima, for streamlining our workflow and making our practice more productive.” Dr. Brandi Johnson, Co-founder, states, “DAS and Aprima’s EHR have been instrumental in organizing our office scheduling, availability of office notes for our office staff and in minimizing time to complete patient notes.”

Unlike template-based EHRs that force individual providers to conform to practice-wide standards while satisfying no one, Aprima’s template-free electronic health record software enables providers to follow their own protocols. Its adaptive learning feature speeds adoption and deployment, a critical capability as medical practices seek to meet “meaningful use” standards for government stimulus fund reimbursements.

Furthermore, as a single EHR + PM application built on a single database, Aprima affords users with the fastest access to clinical and financial data. Its licensing plans make sense for everyone from a solo rural practitioner to a multi-specialty urban group.

“Aprima provides the tools that physicians need to operate their practices smoothly and profitably,” added Michael Nissenbaum, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aprima. “Our value added resellers, who are local to the practices, are an integral part of our success. They assist physicians with these important decisions, maintain the local relationship and remain a trusted source of information for future growth.”
